Bumbuna Water Supply Project
Bumbuna, like many rural-urban towns, lacks the necessary infrastructures and facilities for the population living in the town. Bumbuna population has increased immensely due to Africa Minerals and Bumbuna hydro Dam Project that provides 24 electricity supply to the county-Sierra Leone. The increase in population has a direct effect by putting a heavy burden on existing infrastructures such as the only health clinic, roads, and water supply in the town. The current water supply facilities are limited and in a poor state. Hence, there is an urgent need to improve the existing and provide additional water supply due to population increase.
Like many in different African countries, people in Sierra Leone face numerous causes of why poverty has become an epidemic. Poverty could be due to political instability, ethnic conflicts, climate change, and other human-made reasons. However, one of the chief foundations of poverty in Africa and many other developing countries is the lack of clean drinking water. Africa’s growing population is the driving force for increasing demand for water and diminishing water resources availability. According to Global Citizen, “When a person doesn’t have access to clean water and sanitation, they are also at risk of decreased school attendance, missed workdays, malnutrition, and poverty. When girls and women lack access to safe sanitation and water, their education suffers because they experience a period of poverty and can’t afford menstrual products, clean themselves safely, or separate access bathrooms”.
The Bumbuna Water Project is a partnership between the Pa Sorie Kargbo Foundation and three dedicated decedents. The Foundation and these three incredible people felt the urgent need to help the people of Bumbuna by donating much-needed funds to provide closer access to clean water.
